Description
So I drew the original cellular grotto in 1967 when I was 17. For some reason my mother really liked it, so I left it behind in Ohio when I moved to California. On one occasion, when I was visiting my parents probably after 1978, I sat in front of the original and made this drawing of it with a fine-tip felt marker. My original intention was just to copy it, but I ended up making changes here and there. The cells on the fungus-growing tentacle have real chromosomes, there's some eyeball tadpoles swimming across the bottom, the filigree turned into fern fronds, and there are two models of propane molecules in the lower left. That's why I guess I drew this version after 1978, when I built my present house in the deep forest, with cookstove and water heater powered by five gallon propane tanks!
Funny that the black and white ink version takes a larger file size than the full-color version. The internet really isn't made for engravings and the like!
Fine marker on acid-dropping drawing paper, 10 x 14 inches. As opposed to acid-free— the paper has turned pretty brown in the intervening decades. But I fixed it.
